The commission plans to raise 51 billion birr in the next three months

The Customs and Excise Department has held talks in Bischofswerda over the past nine months.

The results of the nine months of the fiscal year and the problems encountered were discussed and solutions were set.

Closing remarks at the meeting, Customs Commissioner Debele Kabeta said the ongoing reforms, strengthening the accountability system, revenue collection and ensuring compliance will be the focus of the next three months.

The commission plans to collect 154 billion birr in the 2014 Ethiopian budget year, Commissioner Debele said. He said 103 billion birr has been collected in the past nine months.

He said the commission will make every effort to collect 51 billion birr in the next three months.

In addition to the government's mandate, the commission will continue to strengthen its support to people affected by man-made and natural disasters, he said.

Commissioner Debele added: He said income is the backbone of a country's existence and the commission has done a lot to boost the country's economy over the past nine months.

null The fourth round of federal taxpayers' recognition and award ceremony was held at Sheraton Addis Hotel in the presence of FDRE President Sahle Work zewde

   Minister of Revenue Ayenalem Neguse, Commissioner of Customs Commission Debele Kabeta, award taxpayers, religious leaders and elders, tax ambassadors and other invited guests attended the program.

At this year's Loyal Taxpayer Recognition and Award Ceremony, four hundred taxpayers and partners who have played their part together with the Ministry and the Customs Commission were recognized.

Minister of Revenue, Ayenalem Neguse, opened the day's program with a speech. She stated that the government should have a reliable income to answer the social and economic demands of the citizens.

The minister mentioned that it is important to pay taxes honestly in order to properly deal with these multifaceted development needs.

In the fourth round of federal taxpayers recognition and award ceremony, 40 platinum, 120 Gold and 240 silver were awarded to a total of four hundred taxpayers.
